The Golden State Warriors are already dealing with a thin roster before the season even begins, largely due to financial limitations this offseason and injuries. Kristaps Porzingis is currently dealing with a health issue, while Jimmy Butler is still recovering from ACL surgery.

The Warriors can’t afford any more injuries at this point. On Sunday, Steph Curry left Golden State’s open practice after suffering an injury.

“During a scrimmage, Curry tried to make a turn near midcourt and immediately appeared to feel something in his right leg.  The mood inside the arena — joyous and filled with fans for most of the day — instantly turned to concern. He made his way slowly back to the Warriors’ sideline, held his arms down at his sides, spoke with a member of the training staff and tried to shake it off. After a few seconds, Curry shook his head and gingerly made his way to the locker room with team personnel,” The Athletic’s Nick Friedell wrote.

The good news is that Curry suffered a right ankle sprain and is expected to be ready for Wednesday’s season opener.

“The Warriors say Stephen Curry’s injury is a right ankle sprain. Steve Kerr told local reporters after Golden State’s open practice that he spoke with Curry and does not believe the injury to be serious,” The Stein Line’s Marc Stein wrote.

However, there is some concern that a key rotational piece could miss the opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. Charles Bassey is a potential candidate to miss Wednesday’s game.

“Kerr says Charles Bassey is day to day with knee tendinitis,” Friedell posted.

Golden State is hoping to have its big man available, as the team is thin at the position. More updates should come closer to game time, but for now, there is reason to be concerned that Bassey could miss the opener.

Knee tendinitis can be difficult to predict, as recovery depends on the severity of the issue and how the player responds to treatment. The Warriors will monitor Bassey over the coming days, with their season opener just two days away.
