Antonelli Crashes Mercedes GT 4 Coupe In Shoot as Piastri Reacts to COTA’s Cable Car

· Yahoo Sports

Andrea Kimi Antonelli made the silliest of mistakes while shooting content with the new Mercedes, as Oscar Piastri talked about the cable car on track.

Ahead of the F1 US GP weekend at the Circuit of the Americas, Mercedes revealed a special livery for the weekend showcasing its brand MANUFAKTUR, which is hugely popular in America among consumers.

They get the chance to custom-color their Mercedes road cars. To highlight the brand, the F1 team is sporting a special livery, while both George Russell and Antonelli are wearing different colored race suits.

The former is sporting vintage blue, while the latter opted for steel blue. Both got their own Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé to drive as well, in the same color as their race suits. As with any marketing activation, they undertook a video shoot with the same.

Antonelli Makes a Silly Mistake

During the shoot, Antonelli was in reverse mode to be alongside Russell, but crashed into the wooden fence, resulting in jokes all around. With the Italian on the verge of becoming an F1 world champion, his driving skills came into question.

In an F1 Fan Zone clip from COTA highlights, Russell makes a joke about getting Antonelli into jail for the night for underage drinking being only 20 years old – to somehow stop the Italian from winning the F1 world championship. The Brit found a lighter moment in the situation.

Piastri Sees Cable Car as Good Addition

Meanwhile, McLaren’s Piastri found the new cable car addition at COTA at Turn 1 a bit too close for comfort initially when he spotted it on track. But gradually, he got adjusted to it, as he feels the addition to be a good vantage point for the F1 fans.

“Not really, it feels a bit more, quite a bit more atmosphere,” Piastri said to the media. “There’s a bit more going on. Before, you kind of looked at the sky, and now you’ve got more people in the cable cars.

“The first lap I was, like, okay, that’s pretty close, but after that, yeah, I mean, I think it adds to the atmosphere in some ways, so, it’s not too bad,” summed up Piastri, whose results on track are still not where he wants to be after qualifying only seventh.
