NEW BOSTON — Matt Livindini called it “the toughest regional in the state.”
The New Boston Huron boys soccer coach may have a point.

His team is hosting a Division 2 tourney that includes four state-ranked teams – Warren De La Salle (No. 6), University of Detroit Jesuit (9), Huron (12) and Dearborn Divine Child (14).
“There’s a good chance that the state champion will come out of this regional,” Lividini said.
Unfortunately for Lividini, that champion will not be Huron.
The Chiefs opened the Regional with a 2-1 overtime loss to Divine Child on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
“There is no sadness here,” Lividini said. “That’s the way it goes when two good teams play. It was an overtime game.”
Huron had made it this far in the state tournament before, but had never been so competitive.
“Our guys played well all night,” Lividini said. “There never was a time when they did not want it.”
Huron opened the scoring at the 19:12 mark of the first half when Matthew Hussey scored off a free kick following a hand ball in the goal box.
Divine Child tied the game on a goal by Evan Scirri at the 30:19 mark of the second half.
Neither team could score again until Mason Fraley headed in a ball in front of the net.
Huron finishes with a 16-4-3 record despite returning only two starters from 2025.
“I didn’t expect it right for the start, but these guys had a chip on their shoulders,” Lividini said.
The Chiefs will lose just four players to graduation.
“At the end tonight, I had two freshmen and four sophomores on the field,” Lividini said.
