Packers’ Christian Watson Steps Out of Ambulance After Hospital Clearance to Post Career-High 113 Yards

· Yahoo Sports

The Green Bay Packers entered Thursday Night Football hoping to bounce back from a 20-17 loss at the Detroit Lions. Wide receiver Christian Watson was playing like their best weapon against the Carolina Panthers in the first half. Then one hard fall at Lambeau Field quickly changed the mood of the night, and what followed left even veteran NFL insiders talking.

Christian Watson Returns to Packers Game After Leaving in Ambulance

Watson went down midway through the second quarter after a 53-yard catch from Jordan Love. He battled between two defenders, landed hard on the turf and stayed down. Panthers cornerback Will Lee was shaken up on the play too.

The WR walked off under his own power, and the Packers listed him as questionable with a chest injury. Soon after, Prime Video cameras showed him climbing into an ambulance. Reporter Kaylee Hartung said he was going to a hospital for precautionary reasons.

The scare felt serious. Watson had already caught six passes for 100 yards on seven targets, and the Packers could not afford to lose him.

Following halftime, the Packers confirmed that Watson had passed his tests at the hospital and was returning to the stadium. He walked out of the ambulance and rejoined the game in the third quarter, with Green Bay holding a 20-10 lead.

Ari Meirov described the moment on X, “The closest thing to a WWE script I’ve ever seen in the NFL.”

But this was not Watson’s first hospital scare, and the backstory shows why Green Bay leans on him so heavily.

Watson’s big contract and breakout season

Watson has been here before. After a 34-26 loss to the Denver Broncos last December, he went to a hospital with a chest and shoulder injury, flew home with the team and still played the following Saturday at Chicago.

“I was just mad that I had to be doing this when we’ve got a game going on,” Watson said afterward.

The Packers backed him in June with a four-year extension reportedly worth $110.5 million. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported a $31 million signing bonus as part of it. Some fans blasted the price tag at first, yet Watson has kept producing.

Before Thursday, he led the team with 34 catches, 595 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers made the scare on Thursday even harder to watch.

Green Bay improved to 5-3 with a 27-19 win, while Carolina fell to 3-4. Next up for the Packers is a trip to face the New England Patriots on Nov. 8. New England is 4-3 and visits Miami first.
