Price for Potential Steelers Trade Target Revealed
· Yahoo Sports
The asking price for one of the top potential Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver targets at the NFL trade deadline has been revealed.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been publicly coy about whether they’re even willing to trade former first-round wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., but according to a report by Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, they’re asking for a Day 2 NFL draft pick in compensation

With the NFL trade deadline less than two weeks away on Nov. 10, there has already been a lot of movement around the league. The Steelers are a team that has often been quiet around the trade deadline historically, but with a depleted wide receiver room, the Steelers are projected to make a trade to bolster a position that has been beset by injuries.
Thomas is one of the top targets available, even though the Jaguars have not disclosed that they’re shopping the former 1,000-yard receiver. Up until this point, the Jaguars have been firm with teams that Thomas wouldn’t be available for a trade.
“Yes they would”, a rival executive said to The Athletic.
Jaguars head coach Liam Cohen and the organization have publicly expressed confidence that Thomas remains a part of the Jaguars offense, yet league insiders report that his recent benching and low snap count have increased speculation of a potential trade.
After a breakout rookie season in 2024 in which he had 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns, Thomas has struggled with a diminished role and drop issues. Through six games of the 2026 season, he has totaled just 9 receptions for 105 yards and one touchdown. He was benched for the second half of the Week 6 game against the Houston Texans.
With the Steelers placing veteran receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve on Oct. 10, due to a lingering foot injury, and placing Roman Wilson on IR the following week with a finger/hand injury, DK Metcalf and rookie Germie Bernard have been the primary pass catchers for Aaron Rodgers.
The Steelers have been utilizing practice squad elevations for depth, bringing up receivers Brandon Smith and Brandon Johnson. Veteran receiver and former teammate of Rodgers, Marquez Valdes-Scantling was also signed to the practice squad recently, reuniting with the team after a brief stint in 2025, where he appeared in five regular season games.
While the Steelers haven’t let their injury struggles at the position affect them too much thus far, the thin depth suggests that Pittsburgh will be looking to be buyers at the deadline.
The Steelers have historically excelled at finding mid-to-late-round wide receiver talent, such as Antonio Brown, Hines Ward, Emmanuel Sanders, and Juju Smith-Schuster under former general manger Kevin Colbert, but in recent years under current general manager Omar Khan the results have been mixed, partially due to personality challenges and early departures, and it will be interesting to see if Pittsburgh continues to rely on the practice squad and potential return of receiver/special teams ace Ben Skowronek, or if they take a swing at another big name receiver like Thomas.
