Wrestling legends loved Christian Watson’s WWE-style return to Packers-Panthers

· Yahoo Sports

What Christian Watson pulled off in the Week 8 game between the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers was nothing short of a WWE-like storyline.

Watson exited the contest in the second quarter with a chest injury and was even forced to make a trip to the hospital for further testing on his injury.

At that point, we thought Watson’s night was over because who could possibly expect the Packers wideout to return to a game after all of that.

However, we were dead wrong, as Watson came back to the stadium one quarter later, and not only did he return to the contest, he received a target immediately.

If you’ve watched professional wrestling over the years, you’ve seen plenty of ambulance entrances and exits, so Watson’s return had a very WWE-style feel to it.

WWE legend and Hall of Famer Triple H shared his reaction to Watson emerging from the ambulance to return to the game. The only thing missing, Triple H said, was entrance music.

“This isn’t a video game… you did that!!! Next time we’ll work on getting you some entrance music,” Triple H said when getting wind of Watson’s postgame comments about his return.

Fellow WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman revealed that the origin of the ambulance entrance was in 1991 in WCW, when the now-defunct company did something similar with Sting.

And, we’re not clear if he’s joking, but Heyman said football is “pre-determined.”

“We did this with (Sting) in 1991 in WCW (vs Ravishing Rick Rude), and the industry has repeated it with great success in numerous circumstances,” Heyman said.

“My most sincere compliments to the (NFL) creative team. Nicely Done… I love football. Even though it’s pre-determined,” Heyman added.

After the game, even Watson admitted he felt like he was in a scene from a WWE show.

“I used to watch WWE as a kid,” Watson said. I felt like I was watching WWE Smackdown vs. Raw or something, seeing the cameras on me when I was coming out of the ambulance.”

Watson went on to note that the trip to the hospital was spurred on by the fact that he was spitting out blood after his injury. However, everything checked out, which allowed him to make his epic return to the field.

Watson finished the game with eight receptions for 113 yards, with two of those catches and 13 of those yards coming after his return.

The Packers went on to win the game, 27-19, and improved to 5-3 on the season.
