Cowboys' Jerry Jones says there's 'no correlation' between coaches' salaries, winning
· Yahoo Sports
It's been a difficult week for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas had a complete meltdown and blew a significant lead to the Arizona Cardinals, falling 33-30 in overtime. It dropped the Cowboys to 3-5 on the season and was further evidence Dallas won't be able to get this season back on track.

The main figure with the Cowboys that has drawn the most ire is head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Following a 7-9-1 debut season, a positive step was expected in 2026. That hasn't been the case so far and Jerry Jones has begun to receive questions about Schottenheimer's future with Dallas.
During Jones' visit on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) Tuesday morning after the loss to Arizona, Jones was asked about the notion he doesn't pay top dollar for a coach.
"In the NFL, this is after years of looking at all the teams and all the coaches, there is zero correlation between how much you pay a coach or how many coaches you have as to winning," Jones said. "There is no correlation, and that's a random sample of years and all 32 teams involved. So put that in your hopper and smoke it."
Sportico reported estimates of the top NFL head coach salaries in September, though the numbers came with the disclaimer they are estimates since NFL coaching salaries are rarely made public. It's estimated Schottenheimer's salary is among the lowest in the NFL and, while his salary isn't public, Jones' comments signal his head coach is not making top dollar.
"But the point is that you can you can be pretty creative in hiring your coaches," Jones continued. "You can be creative sometimes when you don't even know you're hiring the coaches. And so I've had some good experience of hiring people who have never been in the NFL. I've had some experience of hiring young coaches, older coaches, and so and of course, you constantly remind me, as you should, of what my record is, and I understand that.
"But I also know that the next time you throw the pick, if you were the old California gold miner, you may hit the Comstock load, and then then it is glory hole."
If Dallas' woes continue, the noise surrounding Schottenheimer's job status will only grow louder.
