Vincent Kompany wants to keep Nicolas Jackson at Bayern Munich but Chelsea made him too expensive, says Matthäus

Bayern Munich have decided that they will move on from Nicolas Jackson after this season. The Senegalese striker is headed back to Chelsea FC after a relatively productive season for the German champions, scoring 10 goals and registering 4 assists.

Apparently, Vincent Kompany thinks Jackson’s contribution has been a net positive, since he wanted to keep the striker permanently, according to Lothar Matthäus.
“Kompany is convinced of Jackson’s abilities and would have liked to keep him in Munich,” Matthäus said on the TV program Sky90 (via @iMiaSanMia). “But he’s too expensive. Kompany has made it clear internally that he would like to keep Jackson, but obviously at a certain price that Chelsea might not accept.”
This does line up with prior reports that Chelsea were unwilling to negotiate too far down on a permanent fee for the Senegalese striker. In the meantime, Bayern Munich have shifted focus to Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon. Gordon will likely be much more expensive than Jackson, but promises more utility across the front line and more future potential.
From the player’s perspective, this will be a bitter end to a promising start in Munich. Reports all indicated that Jackson was unwilling to go back to Chelsea, and was trying his hardest to set up a new life in the Bavarian capital. Now he will go back to London, and likely either be sold or loaned out again until his contract expires.
