Michigan State hockey had a historic draft night with five players selected in the first round of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. The third player off the board on draft night was incoming freshman Ethan Belchetz, taken by the Utah Mammoth with the No. 18 pick in the draft.

Belchetz, a 6-foot-6 and 230 pound standout with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL, is expected to join Michigan State for the 2026-27 season. The Mammoth will be keeping close tabs on the Spartans whether or not he will be ready for an entry level contract next year.

Before the season, Belchetz will be with the Mammoth for development camp this summer.
