Curt Cignetti responds to Purdue AD's comments on Indiana championships

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti decided to let the results on the field speak for themselves.

When Cignetti was asked if he had any response to the comment Purdue's new athletic director Tommy McClelland made about the Hoosiers last week, the Big Ten's quote machine had nothing to offer the discussion.
"Not really," Cignetti said.
The rollout for McClelland hit a snag when he veered off script at his introductory press conference and tried to take a shot at Indiana.
"Every recruit, every current student-athlete will hear this message repeatedly, we are here to win championships," McClelland said. "If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana."
The comment went viral for all the wrong reasons with confused IU fans gently reminding Purdue's new AD on social media about the team's recent perfect season (along with the Hoosiers dominance in the rivalry under Cignetti). McClelland acknowledged how the "off the cuff" remark missed the mark the next day.
"Every now and then, you line it up on the first tee and you're really excited, about that round; and I put it right in the water," McClelland said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "I got 18 more holes to play."
Indiana is 2-0 against Purdue since Cignetti arrived in Bloomington with the largest margin of victory over a two-year span, 122-3, in the rivalry since the 1800's. The Hoosiers most recent win over the Boilermakers helped them clinch a spot in the Big Ten title game with an undefeated regular season record.
