Indiana’s Stephen Daley, Kellan Wyatt retain temporary eligibility against Howard

Indiana football will be able to play both Stephen Daley and Kellan Wyatt, its pair of defensive linemen actively seeking fifth seasons of eligibility, for at least one more game following the postponement of a hearing originally set for Friday morning, per reporting from Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star.

Daley and Wyatt, alongside a slew of former athletes, received a temporary restraining order deeming them eligible to play in Indiana’s first game against North Texas via a ruling from the Monroe County circuit court. The upcoming hearing will determine whether the athletes in question are granted a temporary injunction to remain eligible. It’s a case not unlike that of Louis Moore last season, who won his additional year and played out the full 2025 season at safety.

Daley and Wyatt, both members of the class of 2022, are seeking fifth seasons of eligibility in light of the NCAA’s new 5-for-5 model for eligibility that was approved in June. Each were members of Indiana’s roster in 2025 who joined the program through the transfer portal the previous offseason. Both of their seasons came to an end due to injury, with Wyatt going down against Michigan State last October and Daley suffering an injury in the postgame celebrations following Indiana’s Big Ten Championship win over Ohio State.
With the hearing’s postponement, Wyatt and Daley remain eligible for Indiana’s Week 2 matchup against Howard. Of the two, only Wyatt saw the field against North Texas in the season opener this past week, playing sparse snaps. I wouldn’t count on either seeing the field against Howard, a game that could provide meaningful snaps for Indiana’s underclassmen depth on the defensive line.
