Winter was among the 11 players to earn a spot on the official preseason all-Big Ten team ahead of the 2026-27 season, the conference announced on Oct. 5. (The Big Ten honored 11 players instead of 10 due to a tie in the voting.)
The UW 7-footer also earned a spot earlier on Oct. 5 on the preseason all-Big Ten team in the Columbus Dispatch’s unofficial preseason media poll, which projected the Badgers to finish 11th in the 18-team league.
Winter is coming off an impressive junior season with 13.1 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game and 12 double-doubles. He shot an especially impressive 69.9% from 2-point range. Despite his impressive numbers, Winter did not receive postseason all-conference recognition.
Michigan State’s Jeremy Fears Jr. was the Big Ten’s preseason player of the year. Wisconsin was among the nine teams to have a player on the 11-player all-conference team. Illinois and Michigan were the only schools with multiple honorees.
The Badgers – with eight newcomers on their roster – will unofficially begin their 2026-27 season with an Oct. 10 home exhibition against UW-Parkside, followed by an Oct. 15 exhibition at UW-Green Bay and an Oct. 27 exhibition at home against Oklahoma State.
