Texas Tech football WR Coy Eakin to miss time with broken hand

The Texas Tech football team's 53-48 victory over West Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Galaxy Stadium didn't come without consequences.

Starting inside receiver Coy Eakin suffered a broken hand in the first quarter, and Tech coach Joey McGuire said after the game the fifth-year senior from Stephenville will miss "a few weeks."

Eakin had a 22-yard reception on the game's first series, bringing his career totals to 156 catches for 1,968 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Eakin was already on a pace for four-season lows with 24 catches for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns. He's a career 34-game starter, though, and he was the offensive player of the game in last year's Big 12 championship game with 3 receptions for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns in a win over Brigham Young.

Chase Campbell, a freshman from Frenship, played the balance of the game in Eakin's spot and caught 2 passes for 56 yards. He went up in traffic to pull down a 43-yard reception. Campbell is listed third on the depth chart at inside receiver, but top backup Jalen Jones has missed the past four games.

Running back Cameron Dickey left the game in the second quarter and did not return. Dickey aggravated an ankle injury he suffered in the Red Raiders' Oct. 3 win at Colorado. Tech had an open date the next week, and Dickey missed the next two games.

"We feel like he should be OK," McGuire said. "We'll see how he looks tomorrow and Monday."

McGuire said running back Quinten Joyner also tweaked an ankle, "so we'll kind of see how he looks."

"We got banged up tonight," McGuire said. "We've got a lot of guys that are going to have to spend a lot of time in the training room. Mike [Ramirez, associate athletics director/director of football sports medicine] will get them ready."

Tech (8-1, 5-1 in the Big 12) has three regular-season games left: Nov. 14 at Oklahoma State, Nov. 21 at Baylor and Nov. 26, a Thanksgiving night home game against TCU.
