Utah football is all over social media after film session catches attention of NFL veteran

Utah Utes defensive tackle Jamal Wallace is putting in extra work this offseason. There was a video of him doing film study on Friday, which quickly went viral.

The Tennessee transfer was using a wall as a projector screen with a chair setup to work around while practicing moves. While the technique isn't new in college football, the setup was drawing attention from across the football world.
Wallace figured out an innovative hands-on way to watch film without being in a state-of-the-art setup like Texas Tech or Nebraska. Other schools have much better technology, but Utah players still manage to be creative. Wallace’s video picked up steam and was even featured on the NFL's social media accounts. The Bussing with the Boys podcast showed some as well.
There were many reactions to Wallace’s move, including former NFL defensive tackle Gerald McCoy offering his support. The six-time Pro Bowler saw Wallace working on his craft and likely reminded him why football is a brotherhood from one generation to the next.
McCoy finished his 10-year NFL career with 334 tackles with 59.5 sacks, 23 pass deflections and six forced fumbles.

"Keep your pads down young fella. I love what you’re doing but don’t practice bad habits. Practice IT ALL!! Low pads, hands, feet, all of it. You already have what others don’t, want to and work ethic, now put it all together and go be great,” McCoy wrote.
Wallace, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound senior transfer from Tennessee, mirrors every movement to sharpen his technique before the 2026 season. Before transferring to Utah for his final year of eligibility, Wallace played at Sierra College and spent two years in the SEC with the Volunteers. Needless to say, he has climbed the ladder at every step of his career.
Utah added Wallace after spending the past two seasons in a limited role at Tennessee. He played in nine games with seven tackles in those appearances, which included six games last season.
Wallace adds depth to the Utes defense and will be looking for meaningful reps during his final season. Colton Swan was promoted to defensive coordinator in Salt Lake City. But Morgan Scalley will still oversee the process after holding down the position for years. The same physicality will stay intact across the entire unit during the upcoming season.
