The Indianapolis Colts should not be happy with how the 2026 season has started. Indy is 0-2 to start the year and has a historically bad defense through just two weeks. To make matters worse, the Colts will be without one of their best offensive weapons for multiple weeks.
Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is expected to miss several weeks while he recovers after reaggravating his left heel injury, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Indy got right to work finding a replacement for Pierce after the news broke. The Colts brought in veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton.

The news broke on Monday that Pierce will attempt to rehab his heel injury instead of having surgery to repair the issue. Surgery is not completely off the table, depending on how Pierce’s rehab ends up progressing.
Regardless, the Colts are likely to put Pierce on injured reserve now that a multi-week absence is on the horizon.
If there’s good news about this situation, it’s that Jones will immediately reunite with a receiver who he is very familiar with.
The Giants drafted Slayton in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Slayton spent his entire career with the Giants, playing multiple season with Jones as his starting quarterback. The veteran wide receiver is quite reliable, putting up at least 700 receiving yards in all but one season with Jones in New York.
Slayton joins a Colts wide receiver room that needs an infusion of talent. He will play alongside Keenan Allen, Josh Downs, Laquon Treadwell, and rookie Deion Burks.
It will be fascinating to see how long it takes for Slayton to adapt to Shane Steichen’s offense. Colts fans have to be hopeful that he’ll get on the field as soon as possible.
Next up for the Colts is a divisional matchup against the Texans. That AFC South showdown kicks off at 1PM ET on September 27th from Lucas Oil Stadium.
