McAfee was in Iowa City over the weekend for “The Pat McAfee Show” and “College GameDay,” both of which air on ESPN. Those programs were part of the festivities in Iowa City leading up to the Hawkeyes' highly anticipated matchup with Ohio State.
McAfee, a former NFL punter and kickoff specialist, hosts a segment on "College GameDay" called Pat McAfee's "Kicking is Easy" Contest, where he gives away money if a contestant can make a field goal. On Saturday, McAfee offered $1 million to an Iowa freshman and $1 million to the Stead Family Children's Hospital if the student could make a field goal.
After two missed field-goal attempts, McAfee lowered the offer to $150,000 each to the student and to the Children's Hospital if former Hawkeye Dallas Clark could throw a football through the uprights, which he successfully did.
But since then, McAfee has had a change of heart. He is upping the Stead Family Children's Hospital donation to $1 million.

"A lot of people were coming after me a little bit for not doing the ($1 million) donation and I think those people are pretty right," McAfee said on Oct. 5. "It didn't feel right after I was kind of thinking about it. We'll donate $1 million to that children's hospital. I would like to be a part of a help for them, and I think we're going to be doing some work together in the future here."
McAfee visited the Stead Family Children's Hospital during his trip to Iowa City.
"We would like to thank that hospital for their hospitality and for what they do," McAfee said. "They need to know how much they empower and help everybody else that comes in contact with them. Keep kicking ---, which was really the only messaging that I kept saying to everybody as I was losing in tic-tac-toe and corn hole and coloring and finger football they were playing out there... It was special, and those kids are awesome. I can't wait to see them again."
